knafeh chocolate bar - Close-up of kunafa chocolate bars filled with pistachio cream, surrounded by whole pistachios and sprinkled with crushed pistachio bits.

The Knafeh Chocolate Bar is a modern twist on a traditional Middle Eastern dessert, combining crispy kataifi pastry, a creamy pistachio or cheese filling, and a rich chocolate coating. This irresistible treat blends texture, culture, and indulgence into a single dessert bar that’s as fun to make as it is to eat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups kataifi pastry (shredded phyllo dough)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup pistachio cream or sweet cheese filling
  • 1 cup melted chocolate (dark, milk, or white)
  • 2 tbsp crushed pistachios (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate in 30-second intervals in the microwave, stirring between each round.
  2. Coat silicone bar molds with melted chocolate. Turn upside down to remove excess. Chill until set.
  3. Chop kataifi pastry into small pieces. Toast in a pan with melted butter until golden brown.
  4. Mix toasted kataifi with pistachio cream or cheese filling until well combined.
  5. Fill each chocolate-coated mold with the mixture, pressing it down gently.
  6. Seal with another layer of melted chocolate. Smooth the top with a spatula and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Remove bars from molds, garnish with crushed pistachios if desired, and serve.

Notes

For best results, use silicone molds for easy removal. These bars can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week or frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight before serving. Pair with Arabic coffee or serve as part of a festive dessert platter.
